CreativeCityCentreLocated at 1843 Hamilton Street (the two floors above Loggie’s Shoes), the Creative City Centre (CCC) is an exciting new addition to Regina’s Downtown. Home to a variety of artists and arts organizations, the Creative City Centre will offer all of Regina a new place to experience creativity in many forms, including music, theatre, film screenings, fashion design, literary and visual arts.

The CCC is a creative hub in the Downtown area that will give artists a space to create and collaborate, and will engage the community in arts and culture through a myriad of new programming and activities. The centre is also home to a fashion design collective, visual artists and arts-related organizations.

The performance and exhibition space at the CCC was recently named the Hague Gallery in honour of Harold Hague and family. The Hague family have owned and operated Loggie’s Shoes for many decades, and it is with their support and cooperation that the Creative City Centre took shape.

Visit the website for event information on shows live at the Hague Gallery, art at noon talks, and much more.

Globe Theatre

GlobeTheatreLogo

GlobeTheatreDayTImeFounded in 1966, Globe Theatre was Saskatchewan's first professional theatre company. More than forty years later, Globe Theatre is the province's largest performing arts organization and the regional theatre for Regina and southern Saskatchewan. The theatre is housed in the Prince Edward Building in downtown Regina, a designated heritage site that was built in 1906 as the Regina Post Office and RCMP headquarters and later became City Hall.

Globe Theatre programs two stages: a 406 seat theatre-in-the-round Main Stage, and a 100 seat black box space where the theatre produces the Shumiatcher Sandbox Series, a showcase for new work, emerging artists, and experimental theatre. The six play main stage program includes at least three Canadian plays each season and an annual Christmas production which now runs for six to seven weeks and plays to more than 20,000 people. The practice of producing a main stage season in-the-round is a challenging and exhilarating process that fires up the imaginations of all of the artists who work at Globe Theatre.

In 2006, the theatre launched a series of educational initiatives under the umbrella of the Globe Theatre School. The programs include classes and training for children and teens, an internship program with the University of Regina Faculty of Fine Arts, a provincial outreach workshop program, Globe on the Road, and an actor conservatory training program.

As Regina grows, Globe Theatre continues to grow with it. Come to Globe Theatre and experience why LIVE IS BETTER!

Neutral Ground Gallery

NeutralGroundLogo

The Neutral Ground Gallery was incorporated as an artist-run centre in 1982 to respond to developments in contemporary art that were shaping major art movements around the globe. As Regina's leading edge contemporary art forum, the mandate was conceived to respond to the artistic concerns of professional Canadian artists with an emphasis on contributing to a regional context for new or experimental processes and the development of new genres.

The centre accomplishes its artistic goals through creation and presentation activities involving collaboration, research and curation in visual, media and interdisciplinary fields. Its chief mission is to engage practices and audiences with new modes of production, reception and critical understanding of contemporary visual art. In 1997, Neutral Ground expanded its mandate to include a mission to develop new media practices and discourses. Its chief strategy is to support a multi-disciplinary approach towards advancing and responding to the fine arts and to connect Regina artists and audiences to a global-local milieu.

Over the past 28 years Neutral Ground has produced more than 600 exhibitions and performances, recorded more than 1,000 members and developed a strong visual arts based institution with a reputation for collaboration and innovation. We have worked in support of new community voices and are committed to a leadership role in terms of aesthetic and social development.

Regina Plains Museum

plains_Museum_logo

Plains_Museum_imageOperating as Regina's Civic Museum, the Regina Plains Museum has been preserving Regina's history for fifty years. It is the only museum with a mandate to collect materials related to the cultural, social, political and economic growth and development of the peoples of Regina. This is made possible through collecting, documenting, preserving and exhibiting artefacts and other heritage collections.

The Regina Exhibition and the Regina and District Old Timers Association initiated the early development of the Regina Plains Museum in 1958-59. Originally called the Plains Historical Museum Society, the Museum was incorporated in January of 1960. The Exhibition offered space under the Grandstand to store the growing collection and each year throughout fair week, the artefacts were displayed with members of the Old Timers' Association sharing their memories and stories with visitors to the exhibition grounds.

Eventually however, the exhibition needed the space and the collection had to be relocated. The Laird building, an unused warehouse, was offered as a temporary space, however, the collection was stored there for the next ten years with no public access. During this time the Old Timers Association sought to secure a permanent home for the collection. Eventually, the City of Regina made available the fourth floor of what is often referred to as, the Old City Hall. Completed in 1980, a Director/Curator was hired and they developed exhibits with the help of many dedicated volunteers.

In response to concerns of visibility and accessibility, the Regina Plains Museum adopted an extension-programming format in 1999 where exhibits and programs were taken out into the community. The downtown gallery and office space was relocated and featured changing exhibits. A resource centre was also located in the museum space.
