Regina Downtown is a Business Improvement District (BID) that was formed in April 1981. The district itself covers a 40-block area and its boundaries extend from Angus Street to Osler Street and Saskatchewan Drive to Victoria Avenue.
Maintenance: collect rubbish, remove litter from public amenities, sweep sidewalks and report graffiti and streetlight outages;
- Security: hire and manage uniformed neighbourhood ambassadors for street patrol, and work with Regina Police Service and community groups on programs and anti-crime initiatives;
- Business Recruitment and Retention: collect and analyze economic and demographic data, conduct membership surveys and assist economic development organizations, developers and investors;
- Transportation Management: conduct research and implement programs to improve on street parking and advocate and participate in transit planning;
- Urban Design: research best practice design and development models, identify infrastructure improvement needs including road and sidewalk repairs and streetscape improvements, manage façade improvement programs;
- Special Events: attract and facilitate community events and festivals, manage street performances and entertainment;
- Consumer Marketing: produce maps, dining guides, and newsletters, launch image enhancement campaigns and providing promotion to our individual members, marketing the unique Downtown neighbourhood;
- Market Research: conduct studies and surveys on various aspects of Downtown to assist in business growth and to attract new businesses, developers and investors to Downtown;
- Social Services: liaise with social service agencies to research and/or deliver programs that assist the homeless, mentally ill persons and panhandlers;
- Advocacy: enable Downtown businesses to speak collectively, develop and promote unified positions on matters that affect the local members and economy;
- Visioning: develop a vision and strategic plan for Downtown.
